At the age of 91, James Earl Jones has spent half of his life as the voice of the greatest villain of all-time, Darth Vader but now is the time to step away from his most iconic role.

Bust fans of Darth Vader don’t have to worry about a new voice like Patton Oswalt, Ray Romano, or Jerry Seinfeld taking over. An announcement was made that Jones has signed off on A.I. recreations of his Darth Vader voice keeping him in a galaxy far, far away for a long time to come.

A Ukrainian company called Respeecher uses “archival recordings and a proprietary A.I. algorithm to create new dialogue with the voices of performers from long ago,” and Lucasfilm supervising sound editor Matthew Wood said the company also has this “elusive human touch” that makes all the difference. They used this technology in the recent Obi Wan Kanobi series on Disney+.

This is great news for Star Wars fans meaning more stories about Darth Vader can be told for years to come.
