Record Temperature

Kingston had a record high temperature on Wednesday.  The temperature at the Norman Rogers Airport weather station reached 22.8 degrees.  That broke the old record of 21.1 set in 1930.

The record high for today is 23.9…set in 1930.

We’re not expecting to break that record today with a high of 22 expected.

 

Search – Zagrodney

The search for a missing 80 year old Kingston man is continuing and has become what police call a search and recovery

80 year old Archie Zagrodney was last seen on Monday afternoon.  His family told police he was in good health and had no signs of dementia.

The Canadian Coast Guard, OPP dive team and helicopter were involved in a search of Navy Bay yesterday.  Zagrodney graduated from the Royal Military College in 1960 and was an active member of RMC’s Senior Staff Mess.

 

Arrest – Robbery

A 36 year old Kingston man has been charged with robbing the Scotiabank at 863 Princess Street around 1pm Tuesday.  The man was arrested around 6:30 Tuesday night at the Kingston Mills Locks.

He had been waiting at the locks to be picked up and was arrested when he came out from behind some trees for an unmarked Kingston Police cruiser.  He has also been charged with breach of probation.

 

Hiding Under Child’s Bed

A 35 year old Kingston man is facing 17 charges…11 for breach of probation after being found hiding under a child’s bed at a residence on Queen Mary Road on Tuesday.  Police say his feet sticking out from under the bed.

The man has been wanted on four warrants from Kingston Police and two warrants from Napanee OPP.  He was arrested by the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement squad.

 

Kingston Airport

The repairs have been made and the main runway lighting is working again at the Kingston airport.

Some flights were cancelled after the cable supplying electricity to edge lighting on the main runway was damaged by the contractor last week.  A notice to airlines about the lack of lighting was revoked on Tuesday.

 

All Candidates

All candidates meetings leading up to the October 22nd municipal election continue in Kingston tonight with a session featuring the four candidates running for mayor in Kingston.  The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall at Kingston City Hall.  All of the candidates have confirmed they’ll be attending the session.

 

Hip to Perform – Pot Promo

Two members of The Tragically Hip will be performing the band’s material for the first time since Gord Downie’s death during a pot promotion in Toronto today.

Guitarist Rob Baker and drummer Johnny Fay will join Choir! Choir! Choir! to perform a tribute to The Tragically Hip at 8pm at Yonge-Dundas Square.  It is a promotion for Up Cannabis.

The band holds millions of dollars in stock in the company and it is a brand ambassador.

Baker told the Toronto Sun in July that Downie would have loved that the anniversary of his death on October 17th coincides with the legalization of recreational cannabis in Canada.
