Broncos

The emotional impact of the crash involving the Humboldt Broncos bus has been far and wide.

Many people are leaving their hockey sticks by their front doors and their porch lights on as a way to commemorate the 15 people killed and 14 injured in the crash of the team bus on Friday night.

12 of the injured remain in hospital and four are in critical condition.

The Kingston Frontenacs say the book of condolences they had at their game Sunday night will be available for people to sign again today.  The book will be in the Fronts Shop from 10 am to 4 p.m. and will be on the concourse again for game four of their playoff series tonight.

The book will be sent to the team.

The families of two players whose identities were accidentally mixed up in the hours followed the crash say they’re “grieving together.”   The Saskatchewan coroner’s office mistook the body of 18-year-old goalie Parker Tobin for that of Xavier Labelle and counted Labelle as one of the 15 dead.  It turns out Labelle is injured, but alive in a Saskatoon hospital. A justice ministry spokesperson says both families have been understanding of the mistake under the circumstances.

The GoFundMe page created the night of the accident has raised nearly 6.7-million dollars for the survivors and for the families of those who lost loved ones.

Casino Caller

The OPP in Leeds say it’s the first time they’ve ever had a 9-1-1 call like this.

A 21-year-old woman from Quebec called 9-1-1 around 5 a.m. on Saturday to say she had lost all her money gambling at the Shoreline Casino Thousand Islands and needed help getting home.

The woman called police back to say someone gave her 20-dollars and she no longer needed their help.

Police are reminding people 9-1-1 should only be used for “real” emergencies.
