Coalition Wants By-election

City council has the option but can also decide to appoint someone to fill the role left vacant when Richard Turner resigned to become the Economic Development Manager for Frontenac County.

Holding a by-election would be expensive but the coalition says it would be shameful if council decided against the democratic process simply on the basis of expense.

Tourism – Survey Results

Businesses in the Thousand Islands that rely on tourism have given this past summer the highest marks in over 15 years.

88 percent of businesses responding to an annual survey by the 1000 Islands International Tourism Council reported their best season since 1999.

The organization says businesses on both sides of the border were helped by clear skies, warm weather and lower gasoline prices.

It says 60% believe overall tourism in the region will improve over the next five years.
