Red Light Cameras

Kingston won’t be getting red light cameras – at least not yet.

Kingston Police Chief Gilles Larochelle told councillors last night police consider them to be a proven enforcement tool.

But City council put off the final decision on installing the cameras.  Instead – council voted in favour of asking staff to conduct a strategic road safety study.  The study will be delivered to council in early 2017 and it will then make the final decision on red-light cameras.

Noise Bylaw – Queen’s

The exemption allows the use of whistles, amplified sound for game announcements and the national anthem until 9pm.

The only councillor to vote against the exemption was Peter Stroud.

Bridge

The planning for a bridge over the Cataraqui River has taken another step forward.

The estimated cost of the bridge is $120 million.

OPSEU – Union Vote

The Ontario Public Service Employees Union is encouraging workers and nurses at Providence Care to vote on what union they want in person.

OPSEU President Smokey Thomas says it is the only way they can vote.

Thomas says unidentified callers using cloned OPSEU phone numbers have been calling workers at Providence Care to tell them they can vote online or by phone.
