Child Pornography Charge – CFB Kingston

A member of the Canadian Forces at CFB Kingston is facing child pornography charges.

The accused can’t be identified because of a publication ban.

The person was arrested last Thursday and the charges include luring a child…invitation to sexual touching and possession of child pornography.

New Hospital

Kingston’s new hospital is on budget and on schedule.

The board of Providence Care held an open house at Kingston City Hall on Saturday to update the public on the new hospital next to Lake Ontario Park.

It will be the new home of rehabilitation care, complex care and mental health services in Kingston.

Patients will start moving into the new facilities in April of 2017.

Shafia Appeal

In case you missed it.

A panel of three Ontario Court of Appeal judges has reserved their decision on the appeal launched by the Shafias in their Kingston Mills murder case.

The defence argued they deserve new trials because the trial judge made errors, including allowing what they consider prejudicial testimony about so-called honour killings.

The crown argued against new trials for the father, mother and son convicted of killing three daughters and the father’s first wife…saying the evidence against them was overwhelming.

Energy Minister

Ontario’s Energy Minister will be in Kingston today.

Bob Chiarelli will tour recent energy retrofit projects at Kingston and Frontenac Housing Corporation with Kingston and the Islands MPP Sophie Kiwala, Mayor Bryan Paterson and Utilities Kingston President and CEO Jim Keech.

Energy Plan

The City of Kingston is developing a Community Energy Plan and is looking for ideas for creating a green economy.

The plan will be completed this fall and will outline how Kingston can work together to use energy more effectively.

You can find out details on the city’s website and it is also encouraging people to submit ideas on creating a green economy.  An online submission form has been set up and submissions are being accepted for the next two weeks.

New Funding – LGBTQ Youth Mental Health

Pathways for Children and Youth in Kingston is getting a yearly grant of $120 thousand to improve mental health services.   The funding will allow the agency to hire a new clinical social worker in Kingston to address a gap in services for LGBTQ youth experiencing mental health issues.

Tourism Ontario Award

Kingston has won a tourism award from Festivals and Events Ontario.

The city has received one of three awards for Municipality of the Year Award for its support of special events.

The award was handed out at an event held last week by the provincial association representing the Festivals & Events industry in Ontario.
