Budget Consultation

Kingston and the Islands MP Mark Gerretsen says the third crossing has to be shovel ready to qualify for federal funding.

About fifty people attended a pre-budget consultation session with Gerretsen yesterday.

Funding for the bridge over the Cataraqui River was a hot topic.  Gerretsen says it is up to the city to decide if it is going to build the crossing.  It is a priority item for this version of city council.

Jamaica Trip

Students at Holy Cross and Regiopolis Notre Dame high schools have raised about 10 thousand dollars to provide school and medical supplies to families in need in Jamaica.

20 students and five staff supervisors from the schools will be leaving for Kingston, Jamaica for their 2016 mission trip on Friday.

The group will be taking over 500 pounds of medical, dental, school, sports and art supplies with them.

They’ll also have 563 Rainbow Loom Bracelets and Kits for students at two schools in Kingston, Jamaica. The bracelets were made by students and staff at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Amherstview.

Froid Art

This is a cool idea…literally.

A Kingston man had artists create paintings on Mylar that were then frozen in 300 pound blocks of ice.  David Dossett launched Froid’ Art – Art on Ice for the second year on January 30th.

They’re lit up at night and Dossett says it is the best time to view the artwork.

One problem – the ice melted due to mild weather.

Dossett says he got the art work re-frozen in time for Feb Fest and the colourful paintings are still on display at 20 locations around downtown Kingston and one in Napanee.
