Santa Parade

Santa Claus is coming to town.

Kingston’s 12th annual Nighttime Santa Parade takes place tomorrow.

It will start at five in the afternoon at Bath Road and Princess Street and ends with the tree lighting ceremony at Springer Market Square.

Kingston Transit is providing free rides on all routes on Saturday and will provide additional buses for 15 minute express service between 3 and 8pm.

Donations for the food bank will be collected by volunteers from Trinity Presbyterian Church and Canada Post will collect letters for Santa along the parade route.

Frontenac County Budget

Frontenac County will be asking its three townships to cough up some extra cash.

The county has passed its budget for 2016.

The budget contains a 2.5% increase in spending.

South Frontenac Mayor Ron Vandewal isn’t happy with the budget saying his council is against any increase over the inflation rate.

Alpha Jets

Fighter jets will be buzzing the area of the Royal Military College in Kingston this afternoon.

Alpha Jet aircraft will fly over Kingston as part of a training exercise for the Air Land Integration Cell of the Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre at Canadian Forces Base Kingston.

The military says the Close Air Support training involving two Alpha Jet aircrafts will take place between 2:30 and 4:00 p.m. today.  It says they are important in the creation of a realistic training environment for Canadian Army soldiers.  It says the training shouldn’t cause any significant disturbance for residents.

National Child Day

It’s a big day for Mr. Harley Gallagher’s grade 4/5 class at First Avenue Elementary School.

It won a contest to represent children in the community for National Child Day – a day to celebrate the rights of children as defined by the U-N charter of rights.

Family and Children’s Services is providing the class with free pizza and their picture will be the face of National Child Day in Frontenac, Lennox and Addington.
