Bottle Incident

A woman had to be taken to hospital for treatment after being hit in the head with a bottle on Aberdeen Street around 2:00 a.m. today.

Kingston Police say there were parties going on in the Queen’s student housing area and the woman was walking with a man when she was hit by the bottle.  They say her injuries are considered minor.

Police say they weren’t able to find the person responsible for throwing the bottle.

 Sydenham Road – Stabbing

A violent break in at a home on Sydenham Road near Burbrook Road has left a man in hospital recovering from stab wounds and another with a head injury.

Kingston Police say they received a call from a woman saying four men had broken into the home early yesterday morning.

A 43 year old man was stabbed and a 22 year old man was hit over the head.

Police have arrested a 28 year old and a 22 year old.  They’re still looking for two other suspects.

Agriculture vs School – Memorial Centre

The Kingston and District Agricultural Society says it has the final say in any discussion about using the Memorial Centre property for Kingston’s new high school.  Society President Gail Shook says an act of Parliament granted the money for the land and buildings to the agricultural society in 1950.

People have been asking city council to request a staff report on using the property for Kingston’s new high school.

Military Exercise – Choppers

Helicopters will be flying over the Kingston area starting today as part of exercise Collaborative Canuck.

The military exercise at CFB Kingston involves training for 300 health care specialists and support trades from Petawawa and the United Kingdom.

The military says the Chinook helicopters will be seen and heard from today through Sunday.

Aids Walk

People will walk to raise money for HIV/AIDS Regional Services in Kingston tomorrow.

The 24th annual Aids Walk for Life takes place in City Park.

Registration starts at 5pm Saturday with the walk getting underway at 6:30.

 Terry Fox Run

The 35th Annual Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research takes place on Sunday, September 20th.

The main run in Kingston takes place at St. Lawrence College with a 1pm start.

Princess Promenade

Princess Street will be closed from Division Street to Ontario Street tomorrow for the Princess Street Promenade.  The highly successful promotion by Downtown Kingston will include an Oktoberfest beer garden, break dancers, a petting zoo and other activities.

The street will be closed from 7am to 7pm and Kingston Transit is offering free rides on all routes tomorrow.

Funding Increase

Sexual Assault Centre Kingston is getting a boost in funding from the Ontario government.

The province is giving the centre an additional $20,795 to enhance service offered to survivors of sexual assault.  It is part of an increase in the base funding for all 42 centres in Ontario.
