Details

Rockin’ the Square, an annual free concert presented by the City of Kingston returns to Springer Market Square on Friday, Aug. 2. Kick off the Civic holiday weekend with an evening of free music starting at 8 p.m. featuring platinum-selling band Moist and special guest, Kingston’s own Paper Ladies.

Moist formed in Vancouver, B.C. in the fall of 1992. Mark Makoway and Jeff Pearce met while at Queen’s University in Kingston and then moved to Vancouver where they formed an early incarnation of the group. Kevin Young and David Usher had also moved from Kingston to Vancouver to go to school. The first version of Moist was just breaking up when the four decided to do some writing together. In January 1994 they completed their first full length CD, which was titled Silver. The album went on to sell 400,000 copies in Canada on the strength of singles like Push, Silver and Believe Me.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Silver, David Usher, Mark Makoway and Kevin Young will reunite with bassist Jeff Pearce to tour as a unit for the first time since 2013 and will be performing a retrospective selection of hits at Rockin’ the Square.

What started out as a dip of the toes back into the waters of the Canadian music scene for the two-time Juno Award winners (Best New Group 1995, Best Video 1997) has now become a full-fledged, full-time reunion of one of the nation’s most popular and acclaimed alternative rock bands. https://moistonline.com/.

Paper Ladies includes Thomas Drapper (vocals, guitar, synth) and Joe Kenny (drums, vocals) and what they lack in numbers, they make up for with their wall of sound. Combining cascading psychedelic delays, dripping reverbs, droning bass synth, and lo-fi grit, Paper Ladies delivers a sonic blast that can be heard for miles. https://paperladies.bandcamp.com/
