International Women’s Day: Chrissie Hynde

Chrissie Hynde started as a music journalist for NME, writing what she herself describes as “half baked philosophical drivel”. Around the same time, she worked in a clothing store owned by Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren, who passed her demo on the on to a label representative, who recognized her “star power”. The lineup of her band was tweaked over the next few months, ultimately becoming the first permanent lineup for The Pretenders. Hynde oozed confidence and courage, shaping the musical landscape, fashion, and more. She also almost married Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious to keep her work permit...woman's gotta do what a woman's gotta do!
