COVID – By the Numbers

There were no new cases of COVID-19 reported in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington on Wednesday…the second day in a row that there has been no increase.

The total number of cases in the region is 53 since testing began in the middle of March.

KFL&A had reported the total number of cases was 54…but one person diagnosed with the coronavirus doesn’t live in this region.

Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran, Moore says he is confident the numbers are fairly accurate…but says it is likely there are a small number of people in the area who have not come forward to be tested.

Moore is urging people not to attend family gatherings or travel over this Easter weekend to avoid spreading the COVID-19.

COVID – Ontario

Health officials and police are hoping people won’t be traveling during the Easter weekend to avoid the spread of COVID 19.

The number of cases of the coronavirus in Ontario is now 5,267.  550 new cases were reported yesterday…the biggest one-day surge since the outbreak began.

Easter Weekend

Premier Doug Ford has announced all grocery stores and pharmacies will be closed on Good Friday and on Easter Sunday.  Ford says the workers deserve a break during the pandemic and it is one way of saying thank you for their work.  Stores will be open today, Saturday and Monday.

The long weekend means changes for garbage and recycling collection in Kingston…Friday’s collection will take place on Saturday and collection moves a day after your normal day next week.  Kingston Transit will not be operating on Good Friday or Easter Sunday.

Impaired – 401

A 27 year old man from Kingston has been busted for stunt driver on the 401 eastbound near Napanee and now faces a lengthy list of charges.  Police stopped a vehicle around 8pm Tuesday.

On top of the stunt driving charge…Blake Anthony Knapp is also facing charges including being impaired by drugs and alcohol…possession of magic mushrooms, having open liquor in the vehicle, having cannabis readily available and driving without a license.

Trails

People who want to get outside for exercise and a mental health break are still able to walk through parks in Kingston…use the waterfront trail and the K&P trail.

The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority has closed Lemoine Point and the Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation area along with the Cataraqui Trail.

Easter Weekend – Boating

The OPP is asking people to stay home and avoid all non-essential travel to limit the spread of COVID-19.

It is asking people not to go boating due to the cold water that makes it dangerous for anyone, even a strong swimmer, to lose muscle control very quickly.
