RMC Cadets – Quarantine – COVID-19

 

Four cadets at the Royal Military College in Kingston are under quarantine at CFB Kingston after one of them travelled on a plane with a B.C. passenger who has a confirmed case of the new coronavirus.

An email to staff from RMC Commandant, Brigadier General Sebastien Bouchard says the four cadets have been placed in isolation as a precautionary measure.

The message says one of the cadets was informed by B-C health authorities on February 23rd they may have been exposed to the virus during a flight from Montreal to Vancouver” over February 13th to February 14th.

According to the commandant and to the Department of National Defence, the risk for infection is low.

 

Dress for Success – Theft

 

Dress for Success in Kingston says it feels violated after a break in over the weekend that resulted in the theft of over $7,800 dollars in inventory.

Executive Director Lindsay MacDonald says clothing, jewelry, accessories, footwear, make-up and donations from their annual fundraiser were taking during the break in over the weekend.  MacDonald says to add insult to injury they had fittings scheduled for women who were going to job interviews when they found the theft on Monday.

The organization has been helping women in Kingston since 2013 by providing clothing, support, guidance, and mentorship to help women thrive in work and in life.

 

Assault – Women

 

A 35-year-old Kingston woman has been charged with assault and threats to damage property after a fight on the front lawn of a residence.

Kingston Police say two women have a history of conflict and they had advised them to stop communicating with each other.

Police say one of the women threatened to burn down the others home during the fight on Monday night.  The fight ended when a Good Samaritan who was driving by, stopped and separated the women.

 

Lockdown Over

 

A lockdown in the medium security unit at Collins Bay Institution has ended.

The Correctional Service placed the unit under lockdown on February 18th after an inmate was assaulted.

A news release says an exceptional search turned up a number of unauthorized items.

Visits have resumed now that the search is over.

 

Pink Shirt Day

 

It is Pink Shirt Day or Anti-Bullying Day.

People are encouraged to wear a pink shirt to school or work today to show they are against bullying.  The message on shirts from the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston is…Exercise Empathy.

Providence Care has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston to promote Pink Shirt Day and raise funds for youth programs that foster self-esteem, inclusion and acceptance.

Staff will gather in the lobby of the hospital at 9:30 this morning and will present a donation to the Boys and Girls Club.
