Wolfe Island Ferry Service

The headaches continue for people who rely on ferry service to Wolfe Island.

The Frontenac II has started service on the half hour from the Island and on the hour from Kingston this morning.

The MTO says it is very busy today and you can expect long wait times.

The Frontenac 2 carries 20 fewer cars than the Wolfe Islander III.  The Wolfe Islander is in drydock in Hamilton undergoing its five-year inspection. It isn’t expected to return to service for five weeks.

MTO says ramps at Dawson Point have been adjust after the Frontenac II hit the dock on Saturday causing damage and major delays in the ferry service.

House Hit

The Technical Rescue Team of Kingston Fire and Rescue got some on the job training early Tuesday morning.  The team has been involved in upgrading its structural collapse training over the past few weeks and swung into action when a car crashed into a house at 480 Brock Street.  The car destroyed a portion of the brick wall and the Technical Rescue Unit had to use T-shoring…to stabilize the building.  Nobody was in the home when the crash happened and the people in the car took off.

There’s no word yet from Kingston Police on whether they have tracked down the driver.  Kingston Fire and Rescue says the crash caused an estimated $150,000 damage to the vehicle and house.

The owner of the home says it is the second time it has been hit in less than a year.

Peter Walker says the house was hit in December and the driver of that vehicle also took off.

GoodLife West End

GoodLife Fitness in the Norwest Plaza in Kingston’s west end will become a budget Fit4Less facility next month.  A notice to club members says GoodLife will close on November 12th and re-open on November 18t as a Fit4Less.

Members of the west end club have started a petition hoping to keep it open…but GoodLife says the low-cost Fit4Less model will allow it to best serve the needs of the local community. It says members can join GoodLife Fitness at Barrack and Wellington Streets.

Fit4Less will not offer daycare, fitness classes or have personal trainers.
