Fire – Colebrook Road

An investigation is underway into a fatal fire north of Yarker.

One person was unaccounted for after firefighters found a large house fully engulfed in flames last night.

County Road 6 has been re-opened to traffic after it was closed between Colebrook Rd and Bethel Road overnight.  The coroner has been called to the scene along with an investigator from the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office.


Napanee Woman – Infanticide

A woman from the Napanee area has pleaded guilty to infanticide in the death of her newborn baby.

Kristen Pemberton had been charged with first degree murder after being arrested in Banff, Alberta in May of 2015. Yesterday she pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of infanticide and will be sentenced today.

Court hear that Pemberton had given birth in the bedroom of her mother’s home in Loyalist Township.  She didn’t tell anyone and her mother found the infant’s body in the bedroom closest after she had gone to Alberta.


Gananoque Woman Found

Kingston Police say a woman from Gananoque who was reported missing on Saturday has been found.

Stephanie Gipson was found last night at the VIA Rail station in Kingston.

Police and family members had asked for help in locating Gipson after she came to Kingston last Wednesday but  failed to show up for her ride home.


Pride Parade – Grand Marshall

Kingston Pride has announced Rear Admiral Luc Cassivi of the Royal Canadian Navy will be the Grand Marshall of this year’s Pride Parade.

Cassivi is Commander of the Canadian Defence Academy, headquartered at CFB Kingston.

He has also served as the Canadian Armed Forces co-champion for gender and diversity of operations.

The Kingston Pride Parade will be held on Princess Street this Saturday, starting at 11am.

Kingston police are investigating after a stolen Jeep smashed into a vehicle at the intersection of Montreal and Bay Streets.

A car wound up being t-boned just before noon on Monday.  The female driver of the Jeep was seen getting out of the vehicle and running from the scene.


Bursaries CAS

Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington has handed out over $70,000 in college and university bursaries to 14 youth in its care.

One youth is getting a multi-year bursary of $18,000.

The Kingston based agency handed out the largest amount in its 125 year history during its annual graduation ceremony last night.

All of the money came from donations.
