Highway 401 Traffic

Highway 401 was closed for roughly three hours Thursday morning, following an accident involving a tractor trailer and at least one other vehicle.

The accident occurred at roughly 5:30am, closing the eastbound and westbound lanes of the 401 during the morning commute from Highway 38 to County Road 6.

OPP were on scene directing traffic while debris from the accident was cleaned up.

The highway saw both lanes re-open by roughly 8:30am.

There is no word on the cause of the accident.

 

Addiction and Mental Health Services KFLA

City staff are looking into changes at Addiction and Mental Health Services of KFL&A and how they could affect city-funded housing programs…

The City has committed $1.9 million to a new housing project with the agency.

However, layoffs of 42 employees at the agency has led to some concerns for the city’s Housing and Homelessness Advisory Committee.

City staff are looking into the layoffs and are expected to report back to council in mid-June.

 

Paliative Care Funding

City council will be giving $501,000 to a group trying to set up a palliative care hospice in Kingston.

The funds will be given over five years from the operating budget to cover the costs of various fees and permits.

Hospice Kingston has secured $10.2-million of the $11.7-million it needs to build the 10 bed hospice facility.

 

Police looking for Good Samaritan 

Kingston Police are looking for a good samaritan and a suspect following an incident at Lake Ontario Park.

A man was allegedly kicked from behind repeatedly by a stranger while fishing, roughly a month ago, until the unknown female witness intervened.

The suspect is described as white, 6 feet tall, with a medium build and black hair.

He appeared to be about 15 years old.

Anyone with information about the accused or the good samaritan is asked to contact the police.
