Mayor Brian Paterson says he expects the newly elected Kingston City Council will approve Ranked Ballot Voting for the next municipal election.

63% of voters in Kingston said “YES” to a ranked ballots in a referendum question…but less than 50% of people voted in Kingston.  That means the referendum isn’t binding…but….Mayor Bryan Paterson says he expects council will support the decision of the voters.

City officials are promising to investigate the Internet voting system used in Kingston…but say the integrity of the system was never threatened during an outage in Internet voting on Election Day.  The city declared an election emergency and extended voting until 9:15 Monday night.   The same system was used in about 50 other municipalities and all suffered the same outage.  Some extended voting through yesterday.
