Serious Crash

 

Princess Street was closed from Taylor Kidd Boulevard to Portsmouth Avenue this morning following a serious motor vehicle collision.

Kingston Police closed Princess Street while they investigated the single vehicle crash.

A car slammed into a utility pole in front of the Kingston Dodge dealership at 3:00 a.m.

No other information was released by Kingston Police early this morning.

 

Arrest – Sexual Assault

 

A 27 year old Kingston man is facing multiple charges following the sexual assault of a woman in downtown Kingston early Saturday morning.  The man has been charged with breaking into the apartment of the woman on Montreal Street between Princess and Queen Streets and sexually assaulting her.  Surveillance video helped police arrest their suspect on Saturday.

 

Micky McArthur – Release

 

A Kingston man who made a name for himself as a criminal and has been serving a life term on four counts of attempted murder has been granted unescorted temporary absences for the second time.

65 year old Micky McArthur was convicted following a botched bank robbery in Port Perry in 1994.  He was arrested after a standoff at a home in Kingston.

McArthur has changed his name and is living in an Aboriginal healing village.  He was granted temporary absences by the Parole Board in February and again on July 25th.

The Whig reports Kingston Police say he remains a person of interest in the disappearances of 24 year old Tom Gencarelli in 1982 and 37 year old David Hannah in 1983.

 

Breakwater Park

 

The city is asking people to stop crossing King Street at Beverley Street to get to Breakwater Park and Gord Edgar Downie Pier.  Signs were installed last week and fencing will be put up to block the Beverley Street entrance to the park.  A news release from the city says these are temporary measure while it explores options to address the safety of the crossing.  The city is asking people to cross King Street at the traffic signal at Albert Street.

 

Ride for KGH

 

The second annual University Hospitals Kingston Foundation LifeCycle event on Saturday raised 21 thousand dollar for the redevelopment of Kingston General Hospital.  38 cyclists took part in the event on Wolfe Island.  The event raised 32 thousand dollars last year.
