Toronto – Shooting

 

Two people are dead and more than a dozen others have been injured in a mass shooting Sunday night in the downtown Toronto neighbourhood known as Greektown. Police Chief Mark Saunders says a man opened fire with a pistol around 10-p-m on Danforth Avenue.  Saunders says the gunman exchanged fire with officers and died at the scene.

Toronto Mayor John Tory thanked first responders who did an excellent job in horrible circumstances.  He says he’s outraged by the attack on people innocently enjoying a Sunday evening.

 

Stabbing – Kingston

 

No information is available from Kingston Police after a stabbing early Sunday morning.

It happened at a residence on Apple Down Drive in the west end.

Police and paramedics were called to the home around 3am yesterday.  Police spent yesterday on the scene investigating.  No information is available on the condition of the victim or whether an arrest has been made.

 

Sandbanks Drowning

 

A 7 year old boy has drowned at Sandbanks Provincial Park.

The boy from Jamaica was visiting the park on Saturday.  His body was found in the water around 1:30 Saturday afternoon.

The information about the drowning is contained on a GoFundMe page set up to help the family with the cost of transporting the boy’s body back to Jamaica for burial.

Central Frontenac

 

A wild fire in Central Frontenac that burned for ten days was declared officially out on Friday afternoon.

The fire was located in a remote area south of Arden and east of Arden Road near the Stone Mills boundary.

Officials say due to extreme dry conditions the fire burned underground and traveled unseen through tree roots and rock crevices.  There were no serious injuries to Firefighters and no injuries to Civilians. There were no buildings lost during this fire.

 

Rainfall

 

Kingston didn’t get much relief from drought conditions with rain yesterday.

The rainfall measured 6.7mm at the Norman Rogers airport weather station…about a quarter of an inch and not nearly enough to relieve drought conditions.

 

 

Taylor Hall – Ball Hockey

 

The 4th Annual Taylor Hall Charity Ball Hockey Tournament drew a large crowd to the HUB on Saturday.  Hall and about 40 professional hockey players took part in the tournament.

Organizers of the tournament are hoping to reach their goal of raising $30,000 for the Boys and Girls Club.

 

Fire Truck Pull

 

The Pull Together for Epilepsy Firetruck Pull raised $11,000 this year for programs that help people who have seizure disorders.  Epilepsy Southeastern Ontario says the brain disorder affects more than 4,000 people in the Kingston area.  The annual event was held yesterday on Ontario Street in front of Kingston city hall.
