401 Eastbound – Fatal

The 401 eastbound was closed at the Wilton Road exit this morning after a fatal crash.

A transport truck and passenger vehicle collided east of Wilton Road and there is a report two people have died.  The crash happened around 4am and by 8:30 this morning there was no estimate of when the eastbound 401 would re-open.

Vehicles were being detoured off the highway at Wilton Road and onto Highway 2 east creating gridlock for morning rush hour commuters heading into Kingston.

Fatal Crash

A crash that closed Taylor Kidd Boulevard on Thursday claimed the lives of two people.

The OPP says there were only two individuals involved in the collision and both drivers died in the crash.

A news release says a sedan travelling west on Taylor Kidd crossed the centre line and collided head on with a van in the eastbound lane.

The crash around 5:30 yesterday morning closed the road until mid-afternoon while investigators collected evidence at the scene.

Missing Youth Located

A 17 year old who was reported missing by Kingston Police has been found.

Police issued a new release yesterday asking for help from the public in locating 17 year old Brayden Thompkins.  An updated release says Thompkins was found safe in Kingston around 2:15 yesterday afternoon.

Arrest – Shoplifting

A woman from Lyndhurst has been charged with dangerous driving and theft after a failed attempt to shoplift meat from Costco on Centennial Drive.

A Kingston Police officer saw the vehicle that took off from the store on Princess Street around 7:45 Tuesday night.

The vehicle was eventually stopped and the 49 year old woman was arrested.  Her vehicle was also seized for being unsafe.

Gananoque – Gord Brown Council Chamber

The new council chambers in Gananoque will be named after MP Gord Brown.

Town council has voted unanimously in favour of calling the council chamber in the new addition to the town hall…Gord Brown Council Chamber.  It will honour the long time MP and former town councillor who passed away suddenly three weeks ago.

The $3 million dollar addition to the town hall that contains the new council chamber is scheduled for completion in September.

Ducks Saved

There was a happy ending for some ducklings that fell into a sewer drain on the property of the new Providence Care Hospital in Kingston.

A crew from Utilities Kingston along with staff from Providence Care and the Ministry of Natural Resources rescued the ducklings yesterday.  They were able to reach the birds by using water to gently flush them to an area where they could be lifted out of the drain.  Staff at the hospital plan to cover the drain with mesh to prevent this from happening again.

Ride for Dad

The Kingston-Quinte Ride for Dad takes place this weekend.

Motorcycles will leave the Cataraqui Community Centre on Sunnyside Road at 9:30 tomorrow morning.

Riders will head to Gananoque for lunch in the fund raising ride for prostate cancer.

The Ride for Dad has provided $635,000 to Kingston’s hospital for research in the past and a portion of the proceeds from this year rides will support the research of Dr. Jason Izzard.

He’s working on a new computer mapping method to detect prostate cancer that will be far more comfortable that the current method.
