Bombardier

Bombardier says it is hiring 100 new people and most of the jobs will be at its Millhaven facility in Loyalist Township.  Bombardier has expanded the operation just west of Kingston and will be producing new street cars for Toronto.

The plant is also building vehicles for the Region of Waterloo, the City of Edmonton and Metrolinx.

Sexual Assault – Step-Daughter

A 57 year old Kingston man has been charged with sexually assaulting his step-daughter on numerous occasions between 2005 and 2013.

Kingston Police say the woman was out of town visiting other family members with her mother and disclosed the sexual assaults during a discussion about the “Me Too” movement.

The man was arrested at his home on Saturday and faces charges including sexual assault of a person under 14 and sexual assault of a person under 16.

Man Arrested – Drugs – Captive

Kingston Police say they had to use a Taser on a man they suspect was high on drugs after he held an elderly man captive.  Police say the victim invited the man into his home Tuesday night to use the phone.  Police say the victim was then ordered to sit down while the man wandered around drinking from a bottle of alcohol and damaged property in the home.  The victim’s family members came to the house about an hour later and saw the man inside…they called police.

A 31 year old Kingston man faces a lengthy list of charges including forcible confinement, robbery, assault with a weapon, assaulting police, and resisting arrest.

Bear Spray Boy

A 14 year old boy has been charged with assault with a weapon after another youth was hit in the face with bear spray.

Kingston Police say the boy had been waiting for the victim on a pathway off Gardiners Road around 6:15 Tuesday night and sprayed him in the face.

The 14 year old has not only been charged with assault with a weapon.  He faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a prohibited weapon without a licence.

Take Down

A man has been arrested after Kingston Police surrounded a vehicle parked in the area of Mack and Albert Streets.

Police were responding to a report of a man with a gun.  They found a BB gun in plain sight inside the vehicle and seized a knife and crystal meth in the high risk takedown around 9:30 yesterday morning.

Standardized Leases

If you’re a renter…the Ontario government is introducing a new standard lease that will be mandatory for all rental properties in the province beginning April 30th.

The province says there is currently no standardized form for rental agreements between landlords and tenants.  The new lease will include any rules or terms about the rental as well as explaining what can and cannot be included in a lease — such as the fact that landlords can’t ban guests or pets.

Maclean’s – Pay Equity

The new issue of Maclean’s magazine will cost men more than women.

Maclean’s is investigating the issue of pay equity and says…according to Statistic Canada…women earn, on average, 26% less than men.

There are two different covers on newsstands today…one for women selling for 6.99…the other for men selling for 8 dollars and 81 cents…26% more than  the women’s issued.  The proceeds from the difference in the higher priced magazine will be donated to a charity to fund a university scholarship for an Indigenous woman.
