Bus Cancellations – Freezing Rain Warning

School transportation was been cancelled for today throughout the region.

Both Tri-Board Student Transportation and Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario have announced there will be no school transportation for the day due to the freezing rain warning from Environment Canada.

It says significant freezing rain is expected to develop later this morning and continue into this evening with several millimetres of accumulation. The freezing rain will likely change to rain this evening or overnight as temperatures rise above the freezing mark.

Kingslake Sludge – Cleanup

The black sludge that covered a large portion of the parking lot at the Kingslake Plaza turns out to have been an additive used to make tires and other rubber products.

The black powder had mixed with snow and the resulting sludge had concerned people using the parking lot.

It was cleaned up by an environmental company on Friday.

The Ministry of Environment says the black additive had leaked from a commercial truck and says it doesn’t believe there was any danger to the public.
