Rainfall – Flooding

People are recovering today after roads, fields and basements were flooded in the Kingston area and

Utilities Kingston started dumping sewage into waterways as rain flooded the sewer system.

Environment Canada says there was 91.6 mm of rain or 3.6 inches of rain recorded at Norman Rogers Airport yesterday.

Most of the rain fell over a four hour period yesterday morning.

King Street was flooded in front of Kingston General Hospital and the Cancer Clinic had to cancel appointments yesterday morning when it was flooded.

One of the worst hit areas was the subdivision on Eunice Drive off of Sydenham Road.  A drainage ditch overflowed and flooded homes.  Residents are blaming land clearing for a new subdivision and the extension of Cataraqui Woods Drive for the problem.

Flood Warning

The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority issued a flood warning for Charleston Lake during the heavy rainfall.  The warning says residents can expect to see spring type levels and flows for several days as water works its way through the system.

Man in Car – Officer Investigated

Kingston Police have apologized to an elderly Kingston man who drove around barricades and got stuck in deep water at the Gardiners Road underpass.

You’ve probably seen pictures and may have seen a video of the incident on social media.

The man was charged by police.

But now they have launched an internal investigation into the actions of one of their officers after his voice was captured on a video yelling and swearing at the man.

A news release from Kingston Police says they are apologizing to the driver, his family and the community and says this type of behavior by officers will not be condoned.

Domestic Dispute – Apartment Trashed

A 44 year old Kingston man has been charged after his girlfriend’s apartment was destroyed after an argument over his drinking.

Police were called to the apartment Saturday night after a man flipped over a fridge, threw a kitchen table and caused extensive damage to the woman’s property and residence.

Police claim he also made threats to kill her and burn down the place.

The man was arrested a short time later and has been charged with mischief to property, uttering threats to cause death, utter threats to damage property, and breach of probation.

Rockport Woman – Assault

A woman from Rockport has been charged by police in Gananoque with threatening and assaulting a former boyfriend.  Gananoque Police says the woman posted a threatening message on Facebook on July 14th…then tracked down her ex in downtown Gananoque where she punched him several times and smashed his iPad.

A woman was also punched in the mouth and suffered a broken tooth.

The 23 year old woman from Rockport has been charged with making threats, assault, mischief and assault causing bodily harm.

Off Duty Arrest

Kingston Police say a man pulled a knife on two off duty officers who were trying to arrest him for a road rage incident.

It happened around 8:45 on Friday morning when a man was almost hit by a vehicle crossing Bayridge Drive near Lincoln Avenue.  The pedestrian started punching the front passenger side window in anger.  The two off duty officers approached the man…one identified himself and the man took off.  The off duty cops gave chase and that’s when they claim he pulled the knife on them.

Several people have posted comments on Facebook saying the man dropped the knife and was beaten by the off duty officers while he was being held on the ground.

The man has been charged with possession of a weapon, assault with a weapon, and resist arrest.

Rose of Hope

The Rose of Hope Golf Tournament has raised over $1.3 million for cancer care in Kingston and more money will be raised at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club today.

144 golfers dressed in pink will participate in the 19th annual event today and have set a goal of raising $100,000.

Organizers say funds raised in the past have enabled many local women to undergo breast reconstruction surgery, and have purchased equipment such as ultrasounds, scopes, and exam beds.
