Keg Party Shut Down

Kingston Police are preparing for a busy weekend of partying in the Queen’s student ghetto area…and they’ve already busted a St. Patrick’s Day keg party was brewing on Earl Street.

A search warrant was executed at the home on Earl Street yesterday afternoon. Police seized 17 kegs and taps.

Charges under the Liquor License Act are pending against six people.

The Keg party had been advertised on Facebook and tickets were sold through the Tilt website.

Police will have extra officers on patrol today and tomorrow and hope to shut down the chances of any large street parties.

Next Level Investments

Kingston Police are asking for patience from people who have invested in a Kingston company that’s at the centre of a fraud investigation.

Police issued an update on their investigation into Next Level Investments yesterday.

It says investors should collect all of their documentation and they’ll be advised of the best way to file a report in the near future.

Police says four arrests have been made and they expect to make several more arrests in the coming days.  The news release says some people have received returns on their investments with Next Level but that does not mean the company is operating legally.

Weapons Found – Collins Bay

Officials say weapons were discovered during a search and lockdown in the medium security unit at Collins Bay Institution.  Inmates were locked in their cells last Friday, visits were cancelled and the search was launched.

The Correctional Service says two handmade weapons and several unauthorized items were seized during the search.

The lockdown has been lifted and visits have resumed.

O’Leary – Queen’s

Conservative Leadership Candidate Kevin O’Leary told a packed house at Queen’s last night he’s going to win the leadership race…and then he’ll make Justin Trudeau’s life a living hell for the two years leading up to the next election.

Close to a thousand people filled Grant Hall for the speech by O’Leary who says he wants to motivate young people to get involved in politics.

Online Ticket Sales

Kingston and the Islands MPP Sophie Kiwala says 34,715 people have completed a questionnaire about online ticket sales.  Kiwala proposed legislation to regulate computerized programs that grab up blocks of prime concert tickets following The Tragically Hips tour last summer.

Two round table sessions were also hosted in Kingston and Toronto to get feedback.

Kiwala says she’s now looking forward to working with Attorney General Yasir Naqvi to introduce new legislation that, in her words, “will put fans first.”
