Fire – Kingsdale Chateau

Some residents of the Kingsdale Chateau Retirement Home were evacuated for a short period of time when fire was discovered on the roof.

Kingston Fire and Rescue was called to the home at 520 Kingsdale Avenue around 7:30 last night.  Firefighters found rubber roofing membrane had caught fire.  Damage is estimated at $5,000 and the cause is believed to be due to repair work done on the roof earlier in the day.

Council – Integrity Commissioner

The person who found councillors Adam Candon and Kevin George in contravention of the city’s code of conduct  will be now be on call for Kingston city council.  Council approved hiring Janet Leiper as an on call integrity commissioner.

A second person will be hired to help staff review the city’s code of conduct.

Capitol Condo

City council held another vote on the Capitol condo last night due to Adam Candon’s conflict of interest.  It wound up in a 6-all tie.

City staff informed council the original zoning amendment remains valid and the Ontario Municipal Board will still hear appeals.

Napier Street – Park

City staff will study traffic flow and the effects of closing a section of Napier Street to turn it into parkland.  Councillors Jim Neill and Peter Stroud want the park on the former St. Joseph – St. Mary School property to be linked to Churchill Park.  The two areas are now separated by Napier Street.  About half the school property will become a park and the rest will become an affordable housing project and a private development.

OPP Cruiser Hit – Charges

Two men have been charged after an OPP cruiser was hit by a car on Sunset Shores Lane in South Frontenac Saturday night.

The cruiser was hit at a high rate of speed when South Frontenac OPP responded to a call about a break and enter.

24 year old Frank Jacob Teal and 29 year old Jessie Levi Teal have been charged with break and enter…possession of property obtained by crime and unauthorized possession of a firearm.  Jessie Teal also faces multiple charges related to the crash including driving under suspension.  Frank Teal faces four counts of failing to comply with previous court orders.

Gan Drug Bust

Police say the value of the drugs seized at a large scale pot production operation near Gananoque was over a million dollars.

Police executed a search warrant at the property on Old River Road in Leeds and Thousand Islands Township on October 6th.  Four men ranging in age from 28 to 44 face charges of production and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Police seized 544 marijuana plants, 146 pounds of dried marijuana, 82 pounds of cannabis resin oil, 41 grams of hash and half a gram of crack cocaine.
