Kingston Bank Robber Caught
Kingston Police arrested a A 32-year-old local male believed to be responsible for a bank robbery yesterday afternoon
Around 5pm yesterday, a lone male entered the TD Canada Trust located on Gardiners Rd., told the teller he had a gun and demanded cash.
With A description of the suspect,  bank surveillance images and tips from the public Kingston Police were able to confirm a person matching the suspect’s description received a taxi ride to the Cliff Crescent area shortly after the robbery.
Further information led police to a local Kingston motel where the suspect was located and arrested without incident. No firearm was located and a small amount of cash was recovered.
The accused was transported to Kingston Police headquarters where he was held overnight and will attend a bail hearing later today.

Tim Hortons “Duelling Donuts” – Napanee
After receiving tens of thousands of submissions, Tim Hortons has chosen eight finalists for its Duelling Donuts contest – one of them hailing from Napanee!
Francine Robinson of Napanee traveled to Tim Hortons head office in Oakville, ON, to present her donut “Key-Lime to My Heart” to a panel of celebrity judges, including Jann Arden and Sophie Tweed-Simmons.
Francine’s donut, was created with key lime filling, cream cheese icing, and chocolate drizzle. “Family-inspired recipes” was the theme of this year’s Duelling Donut contest, and Francine says the inspiration for her donut came from a favourite family dessert,
The celebrity panel will narrow the field to four finalists, and on August 19, 2015, Tim Hortons will open up the polls and ask Canadians to decide which two donuts they want to have the opportunity to taste in Tim Hortons restaurants.
The finalists will be announced on September 1, 2015, and will be sold in Tim Hortons restaurants across Canada in early 2016, where the most popular donut among Tim Hortons guests will determine who takes home the $10,000 grand prize.

Collins Bay Lockdown – Lifted
The lockdown at Collins Bay Institution’s medium-security unit has been lifted.
The lockdown was put into place last friday afternoon to search for contraband that may have entered the facility, and a number of items were found.
Visits to the institution have resumed.

Inmate – Homicide
Two inmates are facing charges in connection with the death of another inmate in Kingston.
Police say 55-year-old John James MacDonald of Toronto was killed on July 27th at Collins Bay Institution.
Twenty-one year-old Nathan Sachs is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death.
Thirty-one year-old David Russell Tanner is charged with being an accessory after the fact. (The Canadian Press)

The Kingston Voyageurs – Theft
What will happen if the The Kingston Voyageurs lucky game day rug is not returned?
The rug, valued at approximately $2,000, and three stationary exercise bicycles, valued at approximately $1,000 a piece, were reported stolen to Kingston Police on Tuesday.
The rug and bikes would have been taken from the Invista Centre between mid-July and Tuesday.

Regent Street – Fire
Kingston Police are investigating a fire on Regent Street that occured late Tuesday night.
Kingston Fire and Rescue responded to a call at an apartment building on Regent Street where they found a fire at the top of the stairwell that appeared to be deliberately set.

Kingston Hydro – Community
On Monday afternoon Kingston residents can give their opinion on Kingston Hydro’s request to increase its electricity rates.
The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) is holding a community presentation day on Aug. 17 at the Rogers K-Rock Centre at 4 p.m.
Community members will receive a tour of Kingston Hydro’s substation No. 1 and will learn more about the company’s request to increase its electricity distribution rates.
Following the presentation, residents can ask questions and give feedback.

Tweed  – Memorial Splash Pad
Youngsters in a small community northeast of Belleville will be able to cool off in a new splash pad this weekend.
Tweed’s new splash pad is named after seven-year-old Emily Trudeau, who died in an accident on her parents’ farm last summer.
Money for the 370-thousand-dollar project — which also includes a playground and improvements to nearby volleyball and basketball courts — was raised through grants and local fundraising.

Ottawa- School Washrooms
Ottawa’s public school board is preparing for a return to class with new signage on some washrooms.
The plan is to offer gender-neutral washrooms in some schools so all students have a safe place to go.
The so-called “universal” washrooms are single-unit rooms available to males, females or those questioning their gender identity.
The board says it was looking at converting some washrooms for accessibility reasons and decided it was a good time to also help kids who might be questioning their gender identity.

Duffy Trial
Nigel Wright, Prime Minister Harper’s former chief of staff, is expected to face an intense cross-examination this morning at the Ottawa trial of former Conservative senator Mike Duffy.
Testifying for the Crown yesterday, Wright said he never told Harper that a deal to pay Duffy’s disallowed expenses involved someone other than Duffy making the repayment.
Wright’s testimony relates to his secret 90-thousand-dollar repayment of those expenses, which the Crown frames as being orchestrated by Duffy.
The ex-Tory senator has pleaded not guilty to 31 counts of fraud, bribery, and breach of trust. (Canadian Press)

No one has the winning ticket for the seven-million-dollar jackpot in last night’s Lotto 6-49 draw.
The jackpot for the next draw on Saturday night will be approximately 10-million.
