Memorial Centre Grounds – Sydenham District Association Asks for Reconsideration
The memorial centre grounds are still a hot topic for many with the The Sydenham District Association  formally requesting that city councillors reconsider the grounds as the location for a new public high school.
TO re-cap; both QECVI & KCVI will close when the new school opens and The Limestone District School Board has already approved construction of a $36 million school on the grounds of QECVI.
The previous council voted against allowing the Memorial Centre to be considered as a school site. That decision was upheld by the current council in a February vote, just weeks into their new mandate.
The Sydenham District Association motion points out, however, that building at the Memorial Centre would be halfway between the two school communities and that neither the school board or the city have done a comprehensive study of the site.
The association executive passed a motion in mid-July that supports “re-opening of discussion” at the council table, however it does not appear as correspondence on tonight’s council agenda
