 Thefts – Social Media

Kingston Police are once again hoping social media will help them get their man.

They’ve posted pictures of a suspect in the theft of nearly $6,000 in electronics from west end stores.

Police say several retailers had high-end mobile phones, tablets and laptops stolen and investigators believe the man shown in the surveillance pictures is their suspect.

Police are asking anyone who can identify the man to contact them or Crime Stoppers.

 KEDCO Reaction

Tourism is what makes the difference according to the Kingston Economic Development Corporation.  KEDCO says half of its budget goes to tourism and that’s not reflected in an attack ad from a group that has launched a campaign it is calling Kingston First.

The group of businessmen wants an independent review of KEDCO’s 3.2 million dollar budget.

KEDCO acting CEO Donna Gillespie says they have hired a consultant to study how its operations compare to those in other cities.

Mayor Bryan Patterson says he is in favour of a review of all city services to make sure taxpayers are getting value for their money.

 Gas Prices

If you’ve been wondering why gas prices are so high when the price of oil is so low – profit margin is the reason.  The average price of gas is around $1.24 a litre in Canada.

Analysts say last year the oil companies were taking a profit of 15 cents a litre and now that has jumped to 34 cents a litre.

Roger McKnight with the energy consulting company…Enpro International…says it even goes against the rules the oil companies have set out for their own game and says it has left even him shaking his head.
