Kingston – Conservative Nomination

Conservatives in Kingston have chosen a retired RCMP officer to be their candidate in the federal election this fall.
Andy Brooke defeated former Kingston Mayor Gary Bennett and investment advisor Rodger James at the nomination meeting last night.
Brooke will be running against NDP candidate Daniel Beals, the Liberals Mark Gerretsen and Green Party candidate Nathan Townend.
He tweeted following the win last night…
“Some thought “Mayor vs Mayor” would be the result; instead, it has now actually become “Mountie vs Mayor” in K&TI for 2015.”

Council – K&P Trail

Kingston city council has voted to have staff prepare plans to complete the K&P Trail…but it has been warned about the cost.
Council supported a motion on Tuesday night to have staff start work on plans to finish the portion of the trail to connect Kingston to the Cataraqui Trail by 2017…Canada’s 15oth anniversary.
Community Services Commissioner Lanie Hurdle says work to complete the city’s portion of the trail could cost millions of dollars.

Solar Project

That massive solar project you can see part of from the 401 just west of Kingston will be generating power starting this fall.  It’s being built by Samsung and is called Kingston Solar.
The $300 million dollar project will generate enough electricity to power 17,000 homes and will benefit both Kingston and Loyalist Township.
Samsung is guaranteeing the municipalities $7.9 million over 20-years for infrastructure, health and wellness and environmental projects.


Gan – Shoplifting Bust

A long weekend shopping trip to Gananoque has resulted in shoplifting charges against a couple from Kingston.  A 45 year old Kingston man and 46 year old Kingston woman were charged with theft under $5,000 after some items were taken from a business on King Street East on Sunday.
