Sports Dome – Receivership

The receivers say the owners of the Kingston 1000 Islands Sportsplex owe about $10 million dollars.
The dome and the Westbrook Golf Club have been placed in receivership.
A Toronto company has taken possession and control of the facilities.
It’s quoted by the Whig as saying the dome and golf club will be kept open while they look for buyers.

Crash – Charges Pending

A man is facing charges after a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 15 and the Isle of Man
Road.  Kingston Police say the crash was discovered by a passerby at around 11 last night.  There was no driver in the vehicle that had rolled over in a ditch.
A police tracking dog was able to find a man about two hours later.
Police say he’s facing charges – but those are still being determined.

Wilkes – Defib

A Frontenac County paramedic will be on hand today when the Boys and Girls Club gets a new Automated External Defibrillator.
Paramedic Heather Wilkes is single-handedly responsible for raising the funds required for the defibrillator.
She raised the money for taking part in the 2014 Becel Ride for Heart in Toronto.
The machine will be installed at the Boys and Girls Club West End Hub at the Frontenac Mall and there is a ceremony there today.


Holiday

The Easter Holiday weekend is one of those were some people have Friday and Monday off – but some only have a holiday tomorrow.
Kingston Transit won’t be running tomorrow and most retail outlets will be closed.
Kingston Transit buses will run on their regular schedule Saturday, Sunday and Monday and retail will be open.
Garbage, green bin and recycling collection won’t take place on Friday or Monday.
Tomorrow and Monday are also school holidays.

Avril Lavigne

Pop star Avril Lavigne says she’s recovering from a battle with Lyme disease.
The Napanee native tells People magazine she was bedridden for five months and thought she was dying.
Lavigne says she thinks she came down with the disease when she was bit by a tick last spring.
The 30 year old says she’s been recuperating at her home in Ontario with the help of her mom and husband…Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger.

Kingston Man Sentenced

A 47 year old Kingston man told the judge – “I’m sorry for what I did and I’m going to try hard not to do it again.”
Rob Lindo has been sentenced to the equivalent of six months in jail after pleading guilty to stealing a jewelry box from the home of a woman where he was working for a local contractor in January.  Lindo was also sentenced to two years probation and ordered to repay 35 hundred dollars to the victim.
