I've had to write many of these bio's over the years, never once being sure if I should spin some whack tale, or bore you with the actual details. I could cheese it to the extreme and write it in the third person, refer to myself as "he" and create a humourous trail that leads me (him) here to you. I'll choose however to keep it real, the path has been humourous enough on it's own.
 
Real name is Darryl Kornicky. People ask me how I "came up" with the name? Look seriously ,if you are going to go by a fake name is this business, you don't go with a Ukrainian last name. Truth be known, the guy at the docks in Halifax that processed my Grandfather upon his arrival thought he heard something that was like errr....Kor...nicky? Gramps nodded, the stamp came down and so my radio name came into existance.
 
Who am I? I'm a bit of a wanderer, a road tripper, independant, a rebel.The latter is something others have just labelled me with since my teenage years. I don't buy it. I'm a free thinker and I've only ever tried to live by my own code.Their Rules...My Code. Rules are a guide. Question Everything. Care for people not stereotypes.
I clean up well but I'm most comfortable in a pair of faded jeans, a tshirt and running shoes. My hair does its own thing. I havent brought my crazy guy robe in yet, but I have one. I love to read, I love to learn, about anything.
 
 My family's love means everything to me. I'm a loyal friend and kindred soul. I make mistakes.
 
I'm a storyteller. I write, But its something I've only recently started tapping. MY stories. What Ive seen, done and learned. Im not afraid to share my soul. I believe there are certain things, fears, loves, experiences, we all share. It's what bonds us as humans. My favorite authors are Kerouac, Tom Robbins and the great Gonzo, Hunter S. On The Road is a free sprits' map to the universe. Fear and Loathing a part of the everyday landscape..I Make the A Types crazy.  Sorry. See  past the little mistakes and look for the meaning in everything.
 
A greater sense of compassion and understanding of people came with more than a decade of hangin with the Grateful Dead and Deadheads. We looked after each other. Those with, shared. Those without returned a kind jesture with a genuine smile. 92 shows and a lifetime of understanding. When Garcia died, it gave me some time to focus on the career. I love live music and have seen a couple of hundred concerts. I've driven almost 2 million kilometres since I was 16. Have met thousands of people and shared as many experiences.
 
I've been riding motorcycles of some form or another since I was 10. I've yet to find one that I didn't enjoy. My current 05 Harley Springer has served me well, we're still in love.  I live for the open road and road trippin. Life's best lessons are learned with travel...and distance. Most afternoons and mild evenings will find me on the yet to be named machine. I have often joked that I only wanted the morning gig so I can ride in the afternoons. It has saved me a fortune in professional therapy.
 
As for the morning gig, I come to Kingston in my 17th year in the business. I started at the bottom, struggled for years but have been working in mornings for more than 15 of those years. 11 years in Toronto learning from and working with empassioned pros and some legends. I helped launch a radio station with an incredibly talented guy named Ben McVie in Kitchener 5 years ago with great success. Learned a ton.  Went to do the same in Ottawa 3 years ago doing Alternative Rock. Learned even more. November 1st, 2008, I landed here. KRock..legendary. Here we go kiddies.
 
It sounds corny, but I get to live my dream job. I've made many sacrifices to be able to do the job I always said I would do, in a business I always wanted to be a part of. I get to be me and get paid for it. Freakin Cool , man! Their Rules...My Code.  It is after all OUR mornings. I see it as you inviting me into your home and life each morning. We share the breakfast table, get'n ready time, drive in and few minutes at work. Thanks in advance.
