Sound City, the documentary directed by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl about a legendary Los Angeles studio where many of rock’s greatest albums were recorded, has been certified gold for sales of more than 50,000 copies of the film on Blu-ray and DVD. The movie has actually sold more than 100,000 copies in the U.S., with fully half of those in digital form.
Grohl conceived of the project after buying the historic Neve 8028 analog recording console from the now-defunct Sound City studio in Van Nuys, California. The board was built in 1972 and was used to record albums by Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick, Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Slipknot, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica and countless others over the past 40 years
Neil Young & Crazy Horse is set for a handful of North American shows starting in late-August. Young will be busy all summer taking in a 17-date European trek, which will hit Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, and England. On August 31st, Young and the band kick things off on this side of the Atlantic with a show in Dudas, Ontario at the Greenbelt Harvest Picnic at the Christie Lake Conservation Area.
Soundgarden are sharing a preview of “A Thousand Days Before” from the band’s appearance on the public television series Live From The Artists Den, which will be broadcast this week.
Premiering as part of the show’s 6th season, Soundgarden were filmed in concert at The Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles on the final date of the first leg of their North American tour in support of “King Animal.”

The company representing rock band Cheap Trick has filed a $1-million lawsuit against Bluesfest, alleging the music festival prioritized economic considerations over the band’s safety before a stage collapse during a wind storm two years ago.
ZZ Top is heading back on the road with a 44-date North American itinerary. The band, which is now touring in Europe, kicks things off on July 28th Mountain View, California at the Shoreline Amphitheatre and will keep their show on the road through November 18th, when they wrap things up for the year at New Brunswick, New Jersey’s State Theatre. Along the way, ZZ top will co-headline nine summer shows with Kid Rock.
They did pass through Kingston in 2012, so no local show this time around. But they do hit Ottawa on November the 11th
