They are…Gord Downie; Kingston Secondary; Kingston Central; Central Kingston and Namwayut Secondary.  Namwayut means…We are all one.

Central Growth Strategy

Kingston has faced tough criticism over ignoring its official plan when it comes to development…especially in the downtown area.

Now the city is developing a Central Kingston Growth Strategy and is asking for public input on the new policy.

Planning director Paige Agnew says The Central Kingston Growth Strategy will guide intensification and infill in central portion of the city.  An online survey has been posted on the city’s website and an open house will be held on March 28th in Memorial Hall.

Drinking Water – Picton

It is good news for residents of Picton and Bloomfield.  Their municipal drinking water has been tested and found to be within provincial limits and guidelines.

The testing took place because of concerns about contamination coming for Picton Terminals

Prince Edward County Mayor Robert Quaiff says samples were taken on Friday of last week and on Monday and the testing will continue.  The water passed the test for chloride, cyanide, aluminum, iron and sodium.

Shafia – Yahya

An interesting twist the Shafia – Kingston Mills murder case.

Tooba Yahya has been stripped of her permanent residency and ordered deported from Canada….but that won’t happen for 19 years.  Yahya, her husband, Mohammad Shafia and their son were each found guilty in 2012 on four counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.   The bodies of Yahya’s three daughters and her husband’s first wife were found in June 2009 in the submerged car at the Kingston Mills Lock.

St. Patrick’s Day

Police, paramedics, Kingston General and Kingston Fire and Rescue will all have extra staff on duty to handle St. Patrick’s Day partiers.

Last year the partying started early in the morning and people had taken over Aberdeen Street in the Queen’s student district by noon.  This year, police say they will once again try to keep things under control and are asking for people to party responsibly.
