Royal LePage says the Kingston real estate market continues to be a strong one with the price of the average home in Kingston going up by 6.3 percent in the past year

The latest price survey shows strong growth in home prices in Kingston during the third quarter of this year.

Area manage Bob Armer says listings are actually down by 35% compared to last year because there aren’t as many homes on the market.

Armer says there are no indications the housing market will soften in the near future and he believes prices will continue to climb.

Bank Robbery

Kingston Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of a man following a robbery at the CIBC branch at the corner of Bagot and Brock Streets in downtown Kingston.

A man told a teller he had a weapon and fled on foot after getting a quantity of cash on Wednesday afternoon.

The Kingston Police Tactical Team converged on an apartment building at 205 Bagot Street following the robbery.  The building is about a block from the bank.

Police say their suspect lives in one of the apartment units…but…wasn’t there when they conducted a search.

Gananoque – Shots Fired

A man and woman have been arrested after an incident involving gunfire in Gananoque.

Nobody was injured.

Police stopped a vehicle following the incident Tuesday night and seized weapons including bear spray, knives, several pellet guns, ammunition and a bullet proof vest.

They also seized crystal methamphetamine and marijuana.

23 year old Howie Arnold Percy Murray and 22 year old Elizabeth Lacelle-Murray…both of Gananoque face a lengthy list of charges.

Museum Conference

Kingston is hosting more than 300 people for the Ontario Museum Association’s annual conference.

The conference theme is Renewal…participants will be discussing the future of museums.

One of the keynote speakers will be Glen Shackleton of Kingston…founder and CEO of the highly successful Haunted Walks company.

The conference wraps up tomorrow.

 

Kingston Police – Budget Increase

A consultant has told the Kingston Police Services Board three full time sergeants are needed to supervise the police communications centre.  Police Chief Gilles Larochelle says they would take the place of civilians currently doing the job.

He’s asking for a budget increase to promote three senior constables to fill the sergeant’s positions and hire three recruits to take their place.

The board will consider the police budget when it meets next week.

College Strike

St. Lawrence College President Glen Vollebregt says he’s optimistic a strike by faculty can be averted.  No negotiations have been scheduled and the strike deadline is set for Monday.

The college has posted its contingency plan on its website.  It says in the event of a strike this Monday all classes, internships and apprenticeships will be suspended.  Campuses and buildings will remain open.

Courses offered through Continuing Education, Distance Education and Ontario Learn will continue.
