Feihe Trip

The CEO of the Kingston Economic Development Corporation and its lead business development officer are working on developing new business connections in China.

CEO Donna Gillespie and Carey Bidtnes have been in China for almost two weeks.

They were invited by Feihe International to celebrate the company’s 55th anniversary.

Feihe will hold the groundbreaking for a $225 million baby formula factory in Kingston in late August.

Gillespie and Bidtnes are now preparing to come home and hope their trip will help attract more business to Kingston.

Hospital Funding

Kingston’s hospitals at getting $9.98 million dollars in one time funding from the Ontario government.

Kingston and the Islands MPP Sophie Kiwala announced the funding yesterday.

The money will be used for repairs and upgrades at Providence Care facilities, Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu Hospital.

Drug Bust

A 40 year old man from the Toronto area has been busted on drug trafficking charges on the 401 at Shannonville.

Napanee OPP stopped a vehicle on Sunday evening…officers detected the smell of marijuana and searched the Honda Odyssey minivan.

Police seized marijuana and have charged the man from Markham with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Man Assaults Woman

A 21 year old man from Kaladar faces four charges including threatening a 19 year old woman and her pet with death during an altercation in Addington Highlands.

The OPP says it was contacted late Sunday afternoon.

The 21 year old has been charged with assault with a weapon, assault, uttering threats and mischief under $5,000 for damaging the woman’s home.

Police say she was not physically injured.

Wrong Way Transport

Police say they were able to stop a transport truck going the wrong way on the 401 near Napanee on Saturday night before it caused any accidents.

Police responded to reports of the big rig rolling in the wrong direction shortly before 11:00 p.m. Saturday.  It was located without incident and the 52 year old driver from Brampton faces charges of careless driving and driving the wrong way in one way traffic.

Victoria Park – Improvements

The city has announced the grand reopening of Victoria Park will take place on Sunday, July 30th.

Work on the park has been going on since last year and has been completed with the help of funding from the TD Bank.

Improvements include a new water play area, new tennis and basketball courts and a barbecue- picnic zone.

The city has planned activities for the grand reopening from 11am to 3pm on July 30th.
