Attempted Murder – Napanee

A 35 year old man from Toronto has been charged with attempting to murder his 35 year old wife in Napanee’s Springside Park.

The OPP got a call about a woman in distress in the park around 6am yesterday.  They found the woman in downtown Napanee and she was taken to hospital with serious injuries.  She was later released.

The man was arrested in Springside Park.

He faces seven charges including attempted murder, forcible confinement, arson with disregard for human life and assault.

The man appeared in court for a bail hearing yesterday and is being held in custody with his next court appearance scheduled for next week.

Impaired by Drug – Kingston Man

Napanee OPP say a 24 year old man from Kingston was impaired by a drug, was driving a stolen vehicle and tried to run from police when they stopped the vehicle in Tyendinaga Township.

The vehicle was stopped Wednesday afternoon after police received a complaint about it being driven erratically on Belleville Road.

Hunter Korenstein of Kingston has been charged with theft of the vehicle, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving while being impaired by a drug.

Coyote Trapping – Fine

A Kingston man has been fined 25-hundred dollars for illegally trapping coyotes.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says Nickolaos Milonas pleaded guilty in Kingston Provincial Court on June 27th to trapping a furbearing mammal without a trapping license.  Court was told game and conservation officers found over 50 illegally set snares and two dead coyotes on a property on Howe Island last March after receiving a tip from the public.

Former Convict – Book – KP Visit

Kingston Penitentiary will get a visit from one of Canada’s most notorious bank robbers this weekend.

Ricky Atkinson has released a book on his life as Leader of the Dirty Tricks Gang…described as the most sophisticated robbery gang in Ontario’s history.

He spent part of his 25 year sentence in Kingston and was host of PRISON TV, a prison produced TV show seen locally on COGECO Cable 13 in the 1990’s.

He’ll be out front of the prison tomorrow between 11am and 1p, to promote his book…The Life Crimes and Hard Times of Ricky Atkinson, Leader of the Dirty Tricks Gang.

Tall Ships – Bath

Rendezvous 2017 is dropping anchor in Bath this weekend.

11 Tall Ships will be stopping in the community west of Kingston for the weekend.

Spectators will have the opportunity to tour each of the tall ships. There are also historical naval demonstrations – including a naval battle on the water tomorrow evening.

The weekend also features live music, a variety of vendors, and children’s activities.

It gets underway today with the Tall Ships sail past scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.  – weather permitting.
