Drugs – Stolen Goods and Cash Seized

Kingston Police have seized a large amount of stolen property…about $150,000 cash along with crystal methamphetamine, heroin and crack cocaine during a search of storage lockers and homes.

Detectives executed search warrants at storage lockers on March 10th and arrested two people when search warrants were executed at their homes on March 17th.

A 44 year old Kingston woman and a 32 year old man from Cloyne face various charges including possession of property obtained by crime and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

The man has also been charged with breach of probation.

Impaired Driver

A 79 year old Kingston man has been charged with impaired driving after a vehicle drove onto a concrete median, ran over a sign and then drove off – even though the air bag had deployed.

It happened around 9:30 at night on St. Patrick’s Day on Bayridge Drive just north of Taylor Kidd Boulevard.

Kingston Police say the 79 year old driver had almost twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Arson – Guilty Plea

A 36 year old Kingston man has admitted to starting a fire that caused up to $325,000 damage to a duplex in Collins Bay last April.

Robert E. Van Heddegem pleaded guilty to charges including committing arson with disregard to human life and breaking into a house on Homeward Avenue.

His lawyer told the judge he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs and can’t remember much about that night.

Van Heddegem has been behind bars for 273 days and was sentenced to a further 90 days in jay on weekends and 21 months of probation.

Free Transit

Kingston City Council has voted unanimously in favour of including 13 and 14 year olds in the free Kingston Transit bus pass program.

City council approved free passes for students up to age 12 as part of a three year pilot project starting this year.  Students in grades 9 to 12 have had free passes since 2012.

The two programs left a gap where children who are 13 and 14 have no free ride if they’re not in high school.

Council voted in favour of removing that gap last night.

KEYS Job Fair

The KEYS Job Fair takes place today at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour.

The job fair runs from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Sledge Hockey

The Kingston Knights Sledge Hockey team says it may be forced to fold if it doesn’t get some sponsors and new players for next season.  It has been operating in Kingston for over 20 years and is holding a fundraising game this Sunday from 1:30 to 3:30 at the Cataraqui Arena.  The Kingston Knights will be playing the Fort Drum Mountain Wounded Warriors. Tickets are $5 at the door.

The team says it needs players for next year and is also looking for sponsors interested in supporting the sledge hockey team.
