CHRISTMAS STABBING SUSPECT CAUGHT
A man wanted in connection with a Christmas day stabbing is due in court today, 43 year old Cecil Mills was arrested late yesterday. The victim was beaten about the head, before being stabbed several times in the torso.  The injured man was able to escape to another room where he locked himself in and called police.

CHRISTMAS TREE PICK UP
Christmas has come and gone and you’re probably looking for a way to dispose of your real tree. Local girl guides, will gladly take your real tree off your hands. CANADIAN DEATH IN THAILAND
A Canadian has died in Thailand early in this new year. Federal officials in Ottawa say the man was among as many as 20-thousand revellers attending a New Year’s Eve party on the island of Koh Phangan. Thai reports say it’s believed the 26-year-old man drowned in high surf.

CURBSIDE COLLECTION A DAY LATE THIS WEEK
The New Years day holiday means your garbage and recycling will be picked up a day later for the remainder of the week. This is also the week you can put out two untagged bags of garbage.

CANADIAN KILLED IN NYE MASSACRE
We now know the name of the lone Canadian killed in the New Year’s Eve massacre in a nightclub in Istanbul, Turkey.  Global Affairs Canada says the Canadian victim of the shooting attack was 29-year-old Alaa Al-Muhandis an event planner and mother of two from Milton, Ontario. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the attack that killed 39 people and wounded 70 others.

RICH CEO’S
A Canadian think tank says the top 100 CEO’s of TSX-listed public companies received a total of 950-million dollars in compensation in 2015, up six per cent from the year before. Total compensation includes salary, bonus, pensions and stock-based compensation.  The highest-paid person was Michael Pearson, the former CEO of Valeant Pharmaceuticals, who received 182.9 million dollars in total compensation.

SWEARING = TRUTHFULNESS
While society frowns on swearing, new research suggests it may have a silver lining.   Researchers at the University of Cambridge suggest those who swear are more honest. It was discovered those who use salty language express themselves in an unfiltered way, and people who use the language that comes to mind first are less likely to play games with the truth.
