UPDATE: Regi Hold & Secure Caused by “Fake News”

While Kingston Police detectives conclude their investigation concerning a possible threat to a local high school, it has been determined there was never any danger to students or staff.

Late Tuesday night, police were notified of a possible threat against Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School. According to online postings, the threat was to have been carried out Wednesday morning during school hours, which resulted in a “Hold & Secure” Wednesday morning.

Police have determined that a 15 year old boy who was initially thought to be directly involved was, in fact, not involved at all.

Investigators have determined that other students and some “fake news” combined with the broken telephone game were at fault for the stir.

Police say the story then went viral and many believed it, because they didn’t know the context of the information.

The students behind the original story had no intention of things escalating the way they did.

Police say no charges will be laid in the case.
