Snow Day

It is officially a snow day.

Tri-board Student Transportation cancelled all school transportation for the day.  There is no school transportation operating for the Limestone District School Board, Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District Board and Hasting Prince Edward Board due to the weather.

Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario also cancelled all school transportation in the region east of Kingston.

Roads – Snow

Snow and blowing snow have created winter driving conditions throughout the Kingston region.

Plows were out in Kingston and city streets ranged from being snow covered to snow packed with slippery sections.

The MTO reported this morning that the 401 and other highways in the region were partly snow covered with snow covered sections.

Repatriation – Major Scott Foote

A repatriation ceremony has been held for the soldier from the 1st Canadian Division in Kingston who died in Jordan.  The body of Major Scott Foote arrived at CFB Trenton around 2pm yesterday.  Foote was pronounced dead after collapsing in a gymnasium in Amman last week.  He was 50 years old and is survived by his wife Denise and son Geoffrey.

Foote was a logistics officer from 1st Canadian Division Headquarters and was working in Jordan as a liaison officer to facilitate opportunities for the Canadian Armed Forces to train the Jordanian Armed Forces.

OPP – Festive Ride

The OPP officially kicks off its Festive Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere campaign today.  A news release says provincial police will be working around the clock during the campaign by conducting R.I.D.E. check stops throughout the area.

Police also say you should call 911 if you believe someone is driving while they’re impaired.

Theft of Trailer

Kingston Police is investigating the theft of a trailer from a business in the Bayridge area.

A black trailer with BDK Foam Insulation printed on three sides was taken from 780 Burnett Street sometime on Saturday.

Anyone with information on the theft is being asked to contact Kingston Police or Crime Stoppers.

Library – Contract

The Kingston Frontenac Public Library Board and the Canadian Union of Public Employees have reached a tentative contract agreement.  The tentative deal affects about 100 union members working at libraries in Kingston and Frontenac County.  No details are being released until the agreement is ratified by both sides.
