Bodies Found – Inverary

The OPP says there are no concerns for public safety and no foul play is suspected after two bodies were found in a vehicle in the Inverary area.

Police were called to the scene in a farm field on Sunday evening.

They found the bodies of a 28 year old man and 19 year old woman in a vehicle.

A news release from Frontenac OPP says…while the crime unit is investigating but does not suspect foul play.

Wagar Sentenced

Former Napanee financial advisor Kevin Wagar has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison for fraud.  He was also ordered to pay back his victims.  The former Stone Mills councillor was sentenced for defrauding two families of nearly $800,000 between 2010 and 2014.  He had pleaded guilty to putting the money in his own bank account instead of investing it in GIC’s.

Emergency Scam – Napanee

You might want to talk to elderly parents or friends about the Emergency Scam after an elderly woman from Napanee was defrauded of more than $17,000.

Napanee OPP say the woman was called on July 26th by a man claiming to be her son.  He said he’d been in an accident following a funeral and had been arrested for impaired driving.  The woman sent money on several occasions to a man claiming to be his lawyer and another claiming to be her son.

She only realized she’d been scammed when she got a call from her real son….but she had already lost over 17 grand.

On Street Parking

The city is looking at whether it the on street parking permit program should be extended to the Inner Harbour and Williamsville North neighbourhoods.

Residents have been asked to provide feedback by filling out an online survey before September 9th.

The city says feedback from the survey and public information sessions in June will help determine if on street parking permits are suitable for some or all streets in the Inner Harbour and Williamsville North neighbourhoods.

Taxi Companies – Merger

Kingston will soon have two taxi companies instead of three.

A deal is in the works to merge Modern Taxi and City Taxi into one company.  When the deal is done Modern cabs will become City cabs.

The two companies have about 90 taxis.

Amey’s is Kingston’s other taxi company and it has about 125 cabs.

License Plate Stickers – Price Hike

The price to renew license plate stickers in Ontario is going up again.

The Ministry of Transportation is boosting the price from the current 108 dollars to 120 dollars staring September 1st.  Residents in Northern Ontario will pay 60 dollars…an increase of six bucks.  The province says the rate hike is due to the increased cost of maintaining highway infrastructure across Ontario.

Richardson Stadium

The $20 million revitalization of Richardson Stadium at Queen’s University will be shown off to the nation next month.  The Queen’s football game against Western on September 17th will be broadcast across Canada on CITY TV.  The official opening ceremonies for the new stadium will take place before the game.
