Winter Storm – Buses and Schools

It’s a snow day for students.

All school transportation was cancelled because of the winter storm today.

Triboard Student Transportation and Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario cancelled all school transportation today.

And while schools remain open even though there is no bus service – there’s one exception in Kingston.

Bayridge Secondary School was closed today because of a broken water pipe.

Environment Canada says the Kingston region is expected to get 20-30cm of snow…that’s eight to 12 inches of snow.

Forecasters also say there is the chance of several hours of freezing rain this afternoon.

All school field trips planned for today were cancelled because there is no school bus service and the KASSA volleyball and basketball quarter final games have been postponed until Wednesday.

Police were asking people to consider postponing non-essential travel because of the heavy snowfall expected today.

Ash Trees

The city of Kingston will start removing ash trees infested with the emerald ash borer this week.

It has hired a company to cut down and remove approximately 400 ash trees from city property.

There are about 3,500 ash trees on city property in Kingston and the plan to combat the invasive beetle includes treating 600 of the healthy ones.

The City will plant trees this fall to replace those that are being cut down.
