New High School

Kingston city council will be asked to reconsider using a portion of the Memorial Centre as the site for Kingston’s new high school.  City councillor Peter Stroud announced during his town hall meeting last night he will introduce a motion for council to reconsider the issue.

Councillors Rob Hutchison and Jim Neill both spoke against opening the debate.  Neill insists people in his district are opposed to the site being used because it will mean a loss of parkland.

Former Mayors Gary Bennett and Helen Cooper both spoke in favour of the Memorial Centre site.

KCVI student Dylan Chenier got a standing ovation when he spoke in favour of the Memorial Centre and said bringing the discussion to council will mean both those in favour and against the idea would have their voices heard.
