Murder – Suspects

Kingston Police continue their search for two suspects after the murder of a 36 year old man.

Mark Ian Seymour was found suffering from multiple stab wounds in the area of York and Division Streets around 11:30 Monday night.  He died in hospital.

Two men were seen fleeing the area.

Dog Napper

Napanee OPP is asking for the public to report any incidents of a man in a white van trying to pick up dogs in the area.

A homeowner on Ann Street in Napanee reported a man came to their home around 9:30 yesterday morning…claimed to be with the SPCA and said he was there to take a dog because of a noise complaint.

The homeowner refused to let the man in because he didn’t have identification.

He left in a white 2002 Chevrolet van with tinted windows and cages in the back.  It may have a Quebec license plate.

A man in a white van was seen taking a dog on Thomas Street in Deseronto early Monday morning.

Impaired Driver

A 40 year old man from Kingston has been busted for impaired driving after the OPP got a report about a pickup truck being driven erratically at 9:30 Monday morning on the 401 near Napanee.

Police stopped the truck on the westbound 401 at the Wyman’s Road overpass.

Ryan Fitzpatrick has an October 20th court date in Napanee to face a charge of impaired driving.

Elementary Teachers

A sign of hope if you have a child in elementary school.

Ontario’s elementary teachers’ union says it’s ready to resume contract talks with the province.

This comes after a call for a return to bargaining from Education Minister Liz Sandals who expressed concerns about the union’s plans to begin rotating strikes tomorrow.

CFB Kingston – United Way

CFB Kingston has kicked off its United Way Kingston one of the largest workplace campaigns in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington United Way

There was a pancake breakfast in Rutledge Hall this morning to raise money for the United Way.

The campaign goal is $3.4 million and the United reported yesterday it has raised almost $808,000…24% of the goal.

Chilifest

Hospice Kingston’s 25th annual Chilifest in Confederation Park paid off in a big way.

Fantastic weather and a large turnout on Saturday resulted in the popular event raising over $29,000 for Hospice Kingston.

Kingston Penitentiary – Anniversary

From Tony’s today in history file…

It was two years ago today that Kingston Penitentiary was officially closed after being in operation for 178 years.

There have been two groups that have proposed plans for the prime location along Kingston’s waterfront but the federal government hasn’t put the site up for sale yet.  One wants it as a museum and tourist attraction while the other has plans for a development including a sailing school and high end housing.
