A & A Asphalt

Fire has destroyed a storage area and some equipment at A & A Asphalt on Unity Road.

The fire broke out last night in the storage building.

It was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Nobody was injured and the cause hasn’t been determined.

Unity Road was closed between Cordukes Rd and Sydenham Rd due to fire.

Cloggs Road Fire

Some smoldering embers from a house fire on Cloggs Road prompted firefighters to return to the scene of the fire last night.

The only thing left from the fire early Friday morning was the chimney.

Firefighters put out some hotspots in that area around 6:30 last night.

The cause of the fire that burned down the house is under investigation.

The owners had planned to build a new home on the property and demolish the old house.

Kingston Marijuana

A Kingston man has been charged after being busted harvesting marijuana on the Novelis property.

Police found a man harvesting the plants in wooded area on the property last Thursday afternoon.

They say about 80 plants were growing in the area.

They were cut down by police and samples were sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences for analysis.

A 29-year-old man has been charged with production of marijuana.

Car Show – Donation

The 3rd annual Limestone City Car Show has resulted in a large donation in the memory of a woman who passed away at age 35 from melanoma.

Over 300 cars registered for the event that took place at Lake Ontario Park on Saturday, September 5th.

The cheque presentation will be made today for the $7,000 that was raised in memory of Melanie Beatty for the Kingston General Hospital Cancer Clinic.

KGH – Emergency Entrance

The entrance to the Emergency Department at Kingston General Hospital is being relocated to Lower University Avenue today while repairs are made to the ramp leading to the E-R.

The heating system that melts snow and ice is being replaced and the entrance will be repaved.

Starting today – the E-R entrance will be relocated to the Armstrong Wing off Lower University Avenue until the end of October.

Staff and volunteers will be stationed at the Armstrong wing entrance to help and provide directions.

401 Traffic

A large sink hole on the 401 eastbound led to a major traffic delay across the top of Kingston on Friday night.  The sinkhole developed on the eastbound 401 just east of Joyceville Road.  Traffic was backed up for several kilometres and people reported delays of about an hour.

Traffic was able to get around the sinkhole on the shoulder and repairs had been completed by Saturday morning.
