LaSalle Causeway

A reminder this morning the LaSalle Causeway is closed for repairs today and tomorrow.

Alternate routes are Highway 15 to the 401 or Highway 15 to Kingston Mills Road.

The westbound on ramp to the 401 from Highway 15 was closed at 5am – but has since been re-opened.

Amherst Island Wind Project

A group representing island residents opposed to a wind energy project is furious after the province approved the Amherst Island Wind Energy Project.

Windlectric will be allowed to build up to 26 wind turbines on Amherst Island.

There are a number of conditions on the project…including establishment of noise monitoring and natural heritage monitoring programs.

Traffic Court

The new location of the Provincial Offences Court is now open for business at 362 Montreal Street.

The provincial offences court was closed yesterday to complete the move from the Wellington Street courthouse.

Anyone who has a provincial offences fine to pay or wants to dispute a ticket will have to attend the new location on Montreal Street.  It is opening from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 Drunk Driver

A 50 year old woman from Ottawa has been charged after Napanee OPP stopped a vehicle on the 401 eastbound near Belleville around 6:30 Sunday morning.

Police say she was drunk driving on the 401 – side swiped a tractor trailer and continued driving between 60 and 120 km an hour.

Maureen Powers has been charged with impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

 Child Porn – Sentence

A man from Napanee has been sentenced to 12 months in jail on child pornography charges.

24 year old Dustin Chambers plead guilty in June to possession of child pornography and making it available to others.  He was charged after the OPP searched a home in Napanee in January and seized six computers.

On top of the 12 month jail term – Chambers has also been banned from being in public places where children are or could be present for the next 10 years.

 Suspect Arrested by Owner

A 20 year old man from Napanee has been charged with assault and breaking into a business on Market Square in Napanee after being caught by the owners.

Napanee OPP was called to the store by the owners around 11:30 Saturday night.

The owners found a man inside the business trying to pry open the cash register with a crowbar.

Tyler Wood not only faces charges of assault and break and enter…he’s been charged with 2 counts of breach of probation and possession of a controlled substance.

 KGH Funding Announcement

The Ontario government will be making another funding announcement in Kingston today.

MPP Sophie Kiwala will announce funding for Kingston General Hospital’s Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Treatment Centre during a noon hour news conference.

Med Students Social Network

Medical students at Queen’s University are taking advantage of a new social media program that’s exclusively for the use of medical students in Canada.

The Queen’s students are the first to log on to the platform called…The Clerks.

It allows students studying medicine at universities in Canada to share information, collaborate and network across the country.
