Pickup Crash

The driver of a pickup truck that crashed into the concrete barriers at a car dealership on Bath Road in Collins Bay is facing an impaired driving charge.

A witness says there were two young children in the pickup.

Nobody was injured.

The truck wound up stuck on top of three large blocks of concrete and damaged at least two vehicles in the parking lot at 1:45 yesterday afternoon.

Police say a 25 year old woman from Kingston blew three times over the legal limit and has been charged with impaired driving.

CFB Kingston

CFB Kingston and the defense minister’s office both say measure have been put in place to ensure contracting irregularities at the base in Kingston don’t take place in the future.

An investigation last year found senior officers at the base bypassed or ignored policies when they signed contracts and leases worth over $11 million.

The report shows contracts were awarded without the proper tendering process but – it also found there was “no indication of personal gain or collusion”.

Fleming – Obit

She is being remembered as a community activist, health care advocate and longtime former Kingston city councillor.

Mary Fleming has passed away.  She was 61 years old.  Fleming died last Wednesday.

She was a city councillor from 1988 to 1997.

Fleming was also director of the Primary Health Care Reform Branch of the Ministry of Health until she retired in 2012.

A memorial service has been planned for Saturday, July 18th at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

OPP – Fire Investigations Re-Opened

The OPP has re-opened nine fire investigations follow the arrest of 48 year old David Cameron of South Frontenac earlier this morning.  Cameron was arrested following the search of a property on North Shore Road in a 22 year old missing person case.  Police said they found evidence to charge him with Arson with Disregard for Human Life…Arson for Fraudulent Purposes and Possession of Proceeds of Crime following a house fire on North Shore Road in May of 2010

Now…the OPP’s criminal investigations branch is reviewing nine other residential fires that took place in that area between 2010 and 2015.

Distracted Driving

A one day traffic blitz in Kingston resulted in 13 motorists being charged with distracted driving.

Police caught the people using their cell phones while they were driving last Wednesday.

They all got tickets carrying a fine of $280.

Search – Happy Ending

There was a happy ending to the search for an eight year old boy and 39 year old man in Bon Echo Provincial Park on the weekend.

The boy and a family friend went missing from their campsite at approximately eight on Friday night.

Police issued a call for help from the public and say their helicopter located the boy and man, who were safe, at around 9am on Saturday.
