Memorial Centre Survey

The Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce is leading a campaign to have Kingston’s new high school built on the grounds of the Memorial Centre.

The Chamber recently launched an online survey and says 90% of its members chose the Memorial Centre as the preferred location for the new high school.

The Limestone District School Board chose to build the school on land at QECVI after city council rejected a request to consider the Memorial Centre property.

Mayor Bryan Paterson says he’s in favour of re-opening the debate over the Memorial Centre – but that would need someone to bring forward a motion and the motion would require support from 9 members of council.

Napanee Pot Grower

The company growing medical marijuana in Napanee already has plans to expand and it hasn’t sold a single bud of pot yet.

ABcann Medicinals opened its facility on Vanluven Road about a year ago.  It claims it is producing organic marijuana and that’s what sets it apart from other medical marijuana factories.

It has the capacity to produce 36 to 55 kilograms a month – enough to supply about two-and-a-half thousand customers and is set to start filling prescriptions this fall.

ABcann currently employs 27 people and has plans to expand to a new location where it will be able to grow about four times more marijuana.

New Restaurant

A well-known Kingston chef is opening a new restaurant concentrating on farm to table foods.

Clark Day will open Bayview Farm in his family’s 19th century home in Collins Bay this fall.

He had operated a restaurant called Clark’s by the Bay at the same location from 1987 to 1995.

Day is the founder of AquaTerra by Clark in the Delta Kingston Waterfront Hotel.

Diamond Hotels president Michael Springer says he’ll continue to be involved as an advisor for AquaTerra.
