Sexual Assault

Kingston Police are working on tracking down a man who sexually assaulted a 14 year old girl after she accepted a ride from him last week.

Police say the girl was at the Giant Tiger on Princess Street near Drayton around 8:30 at night last Wednesday when she accepted the ride. She wanted to get to the Cataraqui Centre to meet a friend – but the man took her to the LCBO parking lot on Bath Road at Armstrong Road and sexually assaulted her.

Police say they’d like to speak with a man who was in a car in the parking lot and anyone else who may have information about the sexual assault.

The suspect is described as Hispanic with a heavy accent, short in height with a heavy-set build.  He’s believed to be in his early 20’s…and has short spikey dark hair.

Police believe he was driving a beige or light coloured small to midsize sports utility vehicle.

Sex Offender

A 35 year old Kingston man has been arrested and charged with breaching conditions of being on the Sex Offender Registry.

The man was convicted of sexual assault in 2011 and placed on the registry for 20 years.

Police arrested him at a family member’s home on Tuesday after determining he hadn’t updated a change of address…a requirement for someone under the Sex Offender Information Registration Act.

High School Volunteers

Volunteering is alive and well in high schools in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington.

The United Ways says 3,690 students volunteered for an impressive 20,424 hours during the Change the World: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge.   That exceeds the number of volunteer hours by almost 13 thousand.

Students logged their volunteer hours between April 12th and May 24th.

United Way President and CEO Bhavana Varma says, “It is very impressive and shows that young people of KFL&A are committed to making an impact on their community”.

Centennial Drive Development

A Toronto developer has plans to build a new subdivision at the corner of Centennial Drive and Cataraqui Woods Drive.

Frank Casamatta wants to build a commercial and residential development on the 16 acre site…including four high rise buildings of up to 14 storeys.

The proposal includes commercial buildings and nine acres of green space.

It will need the approval of the planning committee and Kingston city council.

Photo Surveillance

Police are hoping you can help identify the two young men who broke into storage lockers at the apartment complex at 539 Armstrong Road on Monday morning.

They stole items from four residents and took off with clothing, electronics and other goods.
