Don Cherry – Dog Rescue

Kingston native Don Cherry is taking on a new cause.
Grapes will launch the Don Cherry Pet Rescue Foundation in Toronto today and a new dog treat called…Simply Pets.
Simply Pets treats will be sold exclusively at Walmart and PetSmart stores with a portion of the proceeds going to the rescue foundation.
Cherry says the foundation will be run by volunteers and all of the money that’s raised will go to saving pets.

Wind Turbines

150 giant windmills may sprout in the forests of Addington Highlands Township and North Frontenac Township.
Frontenac County Council received a presentation from a U-S based energy company yesterday explaining its application for the project east of Bancroft.
NextEra Energy Canada is one of the companies bidding on an upcoming large renewable energy contract from the Ontario government.

Crash Update

48 vehicles were involved in that chain reaction crash that closed the 401 eastbound at Trenton yesterday.  Most of them were transport trucks and one spilled 40 thousand litres of lubricant on the highway.
The Ministry of Environment says it was not hazardous and was contained in a ditch beside the 401.
Nobody was seriously hurt in the massive pileup that stretched over a distance of about 4 kilometres.
Both lanes of the eastbound 401 were re-opened to traffic early today.

 


County Man – Drug Trafficking

A man from Prince Edward County has been charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking after a RIDE spot check in Picton on St. Patrick’s Day.
Police stopped a vehicle in the RIDE check shortly after 9:30 Tuesday night and seized a quantity of marijuana.
A news release says the street value is estimated at 22 hundred dollars.

Child-Pornography – Picton

A man from Picton has been charged following an online child pornography investigation.  O-P-P says they began the investigation two months ago.
Two computers were seized when police search a home in Picton on Tuesday.
28 year old Brett Lavigne has been charged with possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography and making child pornography available to others.

Mental Health Act Arrest

A 24 year old man from Kingston has been charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
A physician had committed the man to treatment under the Mental Health Act and police went to pick him up after locating him at a pharmacy on Montreal Street.
When the young man found out why they were there…he fought with the officers and hit one in the face.
He was arrested and charged…then shipped off to a health facility for treatment of his mental health problems.

Cop Car – Beer Can

Kingston Police have issued a lengthy statement explaining why an open beer can was seen inside a police cruiser during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations on Aberdeen Street.
The picture was posted on Facebook.
A news release from Media Relations officer, Constable Steve Koopman goes into great detail about police collecting evidence while they monitored the partiers on Aberdeen Street.
It doesn’t actually say the can was evidence but the release says no officers did anything illegal.
The party drew over a thousand students and police issued more than 30 tickets for liquor license act offences.

Clothing Thieves

Two men from Kingston have been charged with stealing clothing from a store in Belleville.
Police arrested the men in the parking lot of the store on Bell Boulevard Tuesday night.
A 41 year old is facing a charge of theft and possession of property obtained by crime.
